“Taking Action"

One of the main reasons I joined HW was because of it's advocacy program. While others talk about need for systematic changes, HW continues to take action to ensure these changes are being made.
It is mostly because of their continual advocating that thousands of people are receiving benefits, employed and housed. It's alright to "talk" about what needs to be done, but it is more important to actually stand up and do something. Change does not evolve around words, it's made through "action". So, I challenge each and every one of you to become part of the solution. It doesn't take a lot to stand up for what you believe in, and we will lose if we don't. Remember, SILENCE+DEATH. So, join HW in making some noise, doing your part, taking action and creating change!
Thanks for allowing me to share

Here's hoping I see all my Housing Works brothers and sisters at Bryant Park on Sunday, Sept. 18th @ 8:30 AM! Join me and thousands of others as we march from Bryant Park to Washington DC as part of C2EA. I envision enough people that first day that when the first one's step out of the Lincoln Tunnel in Jersey, the last contingent will just be entering the Manhattan side. I personally will walk 'no matter what'! Palante!

New York Buyers Club!

image

The New York Buyers' Club is a new membership-based member managed nonprofit organization of people living with HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis C and other life-threatening conditions. Their goal is to increase the affordability of beneficial supplements so that those in need can get the treatments they require and desire to tend to their own well-being -- and to provide access to options that are often overlooked in traditional prescription "cocktails." They offer the following programs for their members:

  1. A buyers’ co-op to help members obtain important Nutritional supplements at discounted, bulk purchase prices.
  2. Information on using complementary and alternative approaches to help people living with HIV/AIDS and /or Hep C.
  3. Public forums featuring experts of complementary and alternative approaches to living with HIV/AIDS and/or Hep C.
  4. Informal support/discussion groups where members can ask questions about and discuss their experiences
  5. On-line discussion forums and bulletin boards where members can ask questions and share information with others about alternative therapies
  6. Referrals to reputable health practitioners in the New York area. Joining the buyers club involves paying a nominal annual fee (based on a sliding scale) in order to gain access to their database of knowledge and deep discounted nutritional supplements.

  7. Housing works at 13 th Street will soon be pioneering a liaison with New York Buyers Club to begin a program to provide access to these Nutraceuticals. Clients will be selected to join in this project based on their desire and history of compliance. Housing Works will pay the initial membership fee and the cost of the supplements for the first six months. Clients will then be given the opportunity to continue the therapy at their own expense at extremely discounted prices.
